PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING

June 5, 2008

Attending:  Fr. Robert Dore, Eileen Ackerman, Buddy Burks, Maria Dunser, Melinda Pilkinton, and Delores Hollis

Eileen Ackerman called the meeting to order, and we opened with a prayer.

Minutes:  The minutes were approved.

Report from School – Fr. Robert provided the following report:

Barbara Calland, our new principal, attended the Awards Day and Promotion ceremonies and met with the faculty and staff.  The PE position has not been filled; however, there are three candidates for the position.

Enrollment - We have 110 students enrolled as of this week.  Terri is still taking calls and giving tours.

Building/Maintenance – The cafeteria looks good after the remodeling.

School begins around August 6th or 7th.  Buddy inquired regarding a “Thank You” or “Going Away” celebration from the Parish for Helen.  Fr. Robert suggested that we welcome Barbara at the same time.  Buddy will contact Helen and work on scheduling this event.

Old Business:

Pentecost International Food Festival – Postponed discussion until Sep. 4th.

Chapel - Postponed discussion until Sep. 4th.

Communication of needs to the Parish – Fr. and Buddy spoke and suggested that we might update the Parish yellow pages and create an insert for our directories.  We will continue this discussion at the next meeting.  Delores mentioned that there are people who want to come to Mass but have no means for transportation.  Fr. will ask Jennifer to put an announcement in the bulletin for volunteers to help with transportation.

Reminder – Eileen reminded council members to set up a table with newcomer forms on donut Sunday.  Maria mentioned that the sign is in the kitchen and that there are tables in the mechanical room.

New Business:

Purchase – the Finance Council toured the house.  The owner has offered the property to our church for $50,000 and will allow our church to pay it off over time.  The paperwork has been sent to the Bishop, and we are waiting his approval.

Maintenance – We will send a letter to Tim regarding the condition of the McKellar House and suggesting that he utilize troop-parent volunteers to help.  Joe has estimated a cost of $400.00 to replace dead shrubs; he will remove those but wait until fall to plant replacements.  Fr. will follow up on the hole in the drivet.  The bulbs of the spotlights cannot be changed until we have a means to reach them.

There will be no Pastoral Council meetings for July and August; our next meeting will be Sep. 4th at 6:30.

Fr. informed us that from Jan 07 to Jun 08 we have had 62 new families (from moves and RCIA).  Fr. provided us with new lists of our Apostle groups updated by Jennifer.

The meeting was adjourned with a prayer.
